The Watershed Foundation’s Board of Directors guides the organization in its mission to protect and improve water quality in local lakes and streams.

“We’re excited to welcome Barb and Mindy,” says Lyn Crighton, Executive Director. “They each bring new perspectives and energy to our work.”

Barb Moss

After retiring, Barb Moss and her husband spent years traveling across the United States. Now they’re back in the area where Barb grew up. “Returning home to Indiana and giving back to the community feels like coming full circle,” she says.

Barb’s love of water began early with childhood summers at the lakes. “I learned to swim, captain a boat, canoe, water-ski, and sail on Lake Wawasee and Tippecanoe,” she says. “That lifelong love of nature and waterways inspired me to join The Watershed Foundation’s Board of Directors.”

Tippecanoe Lake is her favorite in the watershed. Now full-time residents, Barb and her husband treasure lake life in every season.

Barb spent her career bringing diverse stakeholders together around shared goals. She hopes to bring that skill to the board, building collaboration among those who care deeply about our lakes and watershed.

“We share a responsibility to steward our land and waterways so they remain healthy for future generations while continuing to enjoy all they provide today,” she says. “Water sustains life and connects our entire ecosystem. Meaningful work at the local level can influence the health of the broader waterway system.”

Mindy Scaggs

Mindy Scaggs has lived on the Barbee Chain full-time for almost 20 years, and she isn’t going anywhere.

“The Barbee Chain is my absolute favorite,” she says. “It offers fantastic fishing, six lakes to float and chill, Big Barbee for fast water sports, and the best golf carting experience. But it truly is the community of people on the chain that keeps us here.”

Her path to the board started with a presentation. Executive Director Lyn Crighton spoke to the Kosciusko Board of Realtors, and Mindy, a lake Realtor, was fascinated by how much our watershed shapes quality of lake life.

Years in real estate have given Mindy a wide network in the area. “I look forward to being a passionate steward of TWF in whatever capacity I can contribute,” she says.

To Mindy, water quality is both an economic and a personal issue. “As a resort area, our communities are fiscally dependent on our lakes. Kosciusko County’s population literally triples during the summer months, and our businesses rely on lake residents. The quality of water has a significant impact on our economic health.” She adds, “Personally, we have seven grandchildren. Like anyone else, we want to leave a legacy for them.”

We are so excited to have two new voices for the watershed!
