The Watershed Foundation Welcomes Newest Additions to Its Board of Directors
Nick Jacobs

When Nick moved to Koskiusko County in 2021, Winona Lake was the first lake he visited. Since then, it has remained his favorite lake of the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed

“I was pleasantly surprised with how much there was to see and do in the area,” he said. He especially enjoys kayaking and fishing.

After moving, Nick was glad to hear of the many non-profits in the area that focus on protecting natural resources. But after learning about TWF’s mission, Nick said, “I became particularly interested in serving on its Board of Directors.”

With a background in legal work, Nick has worked as a general practice attorney for several years now. His background and interest in furthering the mission of TWF make him a valuable addition.

Nick is excited to learn more about the issues that impact water quality in the watershed and what can be done to address them.

The benefits that the lakes in our area provide to our community cannot be overstated,” Nick says. “It takes effort to maintain satisfactory water quality within the watershed.” But to him, that effort is worth it to prevent the consequences of poor water quality.

Nick believes we owe it to future generations to proactively address the issues that are negatively impacting water quality within the watershed.

We are so happy to welcome Nick to our Board of Directors.

Dan Kuhn

When asked what inspired him to join the TWF Board, Dan refers to his lifelong connection to local lakes and his friendly acquaintance with TWF Executive Director Lyn Crighton.

Dan and his wife Julie share a dance at TWF’s annual fundraising event: Dance at Tippy.

“I was a teacher before I retired,” he explains, “and Lyn was one of my students. I stayed in contact with her over the years,” Dan added, “and I’ve always been eager to help further the mission of TWF— I want to do what I can.”

Dan grew up on a farm bordering the Barbee Chain of Lakes. Over the years, he was a water skier on Webster Lake and an employee at a Marina on Lake Wawasee.

Later in life, he and his wife Julie lived in Syracuse for some time, but once they had children, they knew they wanted to raise them on the water, so they found their permanent residence on Lake Tippecanoe.

“Every lake in the watershed has its own personality, and I like all of them,” he exclaimed, though he expresses a special love for Grassy Creek.

With his deep connection and history with local lakes, Dan was excited to get involved, and now that he has, he is ready to contribute and bring his life experiences to the table.

“The Watershed Foundation is such a good organization, and there are so many projects to get involved in,” he adds. “There’s so much we can continue to learn about our lake and keep improving.”

We’re grateful to Dan for committing his time to care for our lakes and communities!
