Gift and estate planning is one of the most powerful ways to support the protection of our local land, lakes, and streams from pollution, now and for the future.
When you include TWF in your planned giving, you may be able to save on taxes, receive income for life, or enjoy other financial benefits — all while ensuring your love for the lakes is honored long after your lifetime.
To discuss the legacy gift that is right for you, please contact Executive Director Lyn Crighton at 574-834-3242 or email lyn@watershedfoundation.org.
All inquiries are completely confidential and at no obligation.
Please consult your financial and legal advisor before making a particular planned gift.
If you have already included The Watershed Foundation in your estate plan, please let us know so we can thank you and ensure your generous gift is used as intended.
Leave a bequest to TWF in your estate plan.
HOW IT WORKS
You can designate a particular asset or a percentage of your estate to TWF when creating your will or trust, or you can amend an existing one with a simple document. TWF can be either a primary or a contingent beneficiary, and we’ll receive the gift after your lifetime. Your gift is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes and may provide other tax savings.
Name TWF as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
HOW IT WORKS
You can name TWF as primary or contingent beneficiary of your life insurance policy. After your lifetime, your policy benefits pass to TWF free of federal estate tax.
Use your retirement plan to support clean water.
HOW IT WORKS
You can name TWF as a full or partial beneficiary of a qualifying retirement plan through a beneficiary designation form. After your lifetime, the residue of your plan passes to TWF and to any other named heirs. Your gift will not be subject to estate tax. As a nonprofit, TWF pays no income tax, so the full amount can be used to protect our lakes.
Donate cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, or even vehicles.
HOW IT WORKS
You can leave assets to TWF in your estate plan. In some cases, you can donate an asset outright. The methods vary with each gift, as do benefits for you and for TWF.
To make a bequest to TWF, the following language may be helpful to your lawyer:
“I give, devise and bequeath ________________ [describe the dollar amount, property to be given, or proportion of your residuary estate] to Tippecanoe Environmental Lakes and Watershed Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation with a mailing address of 301 N Main Street, PO Box 55, North Webster, IN 46555, and Tax ID# 35-2020845.”
