TWF SUPPORTERS BART & CINDA CULVER
Bart and Cinda Culver live and work in the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed. Bob Schwartz caught up with them on their way back to Indiana this month for an informal telephone interview, and here is what he learned.
Bart grew up on Webster Lake where he worked at Sock’s Marina during the summers. He graduated from North Webster High School and went on to earn a degree in Biology Education from Indiana University. He was an avid skier on Webster Lake, a hobby that he was able to turn into a vocation with Bart’s Water Sports. Bart said that he met his wife, Cinda, at a state water ski tournament in Indianapolis. Cinda grew up in Syracuse and is a product of Syracuse High School.
When asked why the Culver’s were such passionate enthusiasts for our environment, Bart said, “Some people like sports, but my hobby is studying the diversity of species. Ever since I was a kid I’ve been interested in bugs and frogs and animals of all kinds. I think that protecting land for animal habitat is one thing you can do that will outlive you. There are a lot of good causes in the world and these causes generally have lots of capable spokespeople. Well, animals need people to speak for them.”
When pressed to tell us why they specifically support TWF with both their time and money, Bart said that he feels all natural bodies of water, whether lakes, streams or oceans are essential for life – human and animal. The Culver’s feel it is extremely important to maintain the integrity of these waters.
