Local students enjoy paddling down Grassy Creek while learning about watersheds and water quality.

Every August, TWF collaborates with Kosciusko Soil and Water Conservation District and other partners to take local students rafting on Grassy Creek and Lake Tippecanoe. The creek, which connects the Barbee chain of lakes and the Tippecanoe chain of lakes via the Ball Wetland Nature Preserve, is a beautiful location for Rafting Week. This year, 326 students paddled with us, learning about watersheds, wetland ecosystems, and more. Working in teams, they also took water samples from the creek, measuring phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, and other key water quality indicators.

A student measures dissolved oxygen, a key indicator of water quality in Grassy Creek.

Rafting Week is a terrific opportunity for students to enjoy hands-on learning and experience the wonder, beauty, and fun of our local water resources. Plus, it’s one of our favorite events of the summer!

TWF is proud to partner with Warsaw Community Schools, Kosciusko SWCD, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Patona Bay Marina & Resort, Camp Crosley YMCA, and the many wonderful volunteers who make this event possible.
