TWF Intern Experience Benefiting Yale

By Treyton Martin, TWF Summer Intern 2022

In the summer of 2022, I worked as an intern for TWF, and that experience introduced me to many of the methods used to sustain and protect watersheds around the country.

Now, as part of the Yale Policy Institute, I’m working with peers to research green infrastructure to help manage stormwater and create sustainable parks in New Haven, CT. As we examine different cities around the U.S. and their management methods, I have drawn on my firsthand experience with TWF and the local watersheds.

Bioswales are especially relevant for our research, so I’ve stayed in contact with Lyn and TWF as I research the subject. We’ve even discussed a specific bioswale on Bell Rohr that TWF helped construct, and the lessons learned from the construction of that bioswale are now being used in our current research for New Haven!

Collaboration is incredibly valuable for a sustainable future, so bringing my experience from TWF to Yale is exciting. Even more exciting is the tangible impact that our work will have on the community.
