This summer, reconstruction on 500’ of lakeshore at Winona Lake Limitless Park will begin. This improvement project includes installation of glacial stones and native plants, as well as a 500’ streambank restoration on Cherry Creek from the bridge to the lake. This project will continue through next spring. In combination with this construction project, TWF is educating park visitors (especially youth) about not feeding the waterfowl and other actions they can take for clean water, like cleaning up pet poo, picking up litter and growing native plants.
Each Friday from 12-2pm from June 15th – July 27th youth and adults can join us at a pop-up tent by the Parks building next to the beach with educational activities. We will host two fun activities: (1) making native seed bombs or pinch pots, and (2) making action pledge bracelets. Kids who participate – and the volunteers – will receive a free Clean Water Superhero t-shirt. Special thanks to the Kos. Community Foundation for financially supporting these educational events!
The parks department will also have a “Dog Days of Summer” pop up tent with $1 hot dogs during this time.
You can also join us during Superhero Training Camp July 16 – 20 11:00am – 12:00pm or at A Bug’s Life Camp the week of July 30th. Both camps will feature a day with TWF where youth can learn about taking responsibility for the environment and being a Clean Water Hero. Bugs will be involved!
Hot dogs, free t-shirts & fun learning about clean water actions!? Sounds like a great way to spend a summer to us! Learn more about the other great Parks Department Programs HERE.
