Tuesday, March 28, 2017 - 11:16am

TWF staff attended The Arrow Head Country RC&D meeting in Winamac, Indiana. The RC&D awarded over $55,000 in grants to 15 groups from 7 counties in the RC&D area.  TWF recently received a generous grant from the Arrow Head Country RC&D. From leTWF received a generous $4,200 to fund the first annual Snapshot Water Monitoring program. This project will engage businesses, organizations, students and adults in testing the water quality of one hundred sites across the entire watershed.

The one-day snapshot of our entire watershed’s health will indicate where potentially overlooked water quality issues exist, and will connect a large group of stakeholders to their water resources. The event is currently scheduled for Wednesday, September 20. More information will be available soon at www.watershedfoundation.org!

Arrow Head Country RC&D has given over $185,000 in grants during the past three years to all 10 member counties. Arrow Head Country Resource Conservation and Development Area Inc. is a non-profit organization comprising all of Cass, Fulton, Jasper, Kosciusko Marshall, Miami, Newton, Pulaski, Starke, and White counties in Indiana. The purpose of the organization is to provide local leadership for developing and carrying out a plan for the orderly conservation, development, and wise use of the natural resources, thereby improving the quality of life for all the people living in the area.

The Watershed Foundation (TWF) was founded in 1997 to protect and improve water quality in the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed; spanning from Crooked Lake in Whitley County to Lake Tippecanoe in Kosciusko County. The Clean Waters Partnership was founded a year ago as an extension of TWF in the Warsaw-Winona area. Over the past 20 years, TWF has worked with farmers and lake residents to implement over 150 water quality improvement projects. In the last three years alone, these efforts have prevented over 556 million pounds of weeds and algae from growing in area lakes and streams.
